According to the announcement by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the following substances were added to the Candidate List on 4 February 2026:

  • n-hexane (EC No: 203-777-6; CAS No: 110-54-3)

At present, the obligations of companies can be summarised as follows:

  • Suppliers of articles containing more than 0.1% (w/w) of the listed substances must provide sufficient information to ensure the safe use of the articles.
  • Producers and importers of articles containing these substances are required to notify ECHA within six months from 4 February 2026.
  • Suppliers of these substances within the EU and EEA must update their safety data sheets accordingly.
  • Under the Waste Framework Directive, companies manufacturing articles containing SVHCs above 0.1% (w/w) must submit a notification to ECHA. These notifications are submitted to the SCIP database.
  • According to the EU Ecolabel Regulation, products containing SVHCs do not meet the EU Ecolabel requirements.
