Chemicals Help Desk Published an Announcement Regarding SDSs

T.R. Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Chemicals Help Desk has released an announcement regarding safety data sheets on February 9, 2024, providing some useful information about how the transition to the new system will take place.

As is known, there have been some changes in the preparation of Safety Data Sheets since December 31, 2023. Safety data sheets are now only prepared by chemical assessment specialists according to Annex 2 of the KKDIK (Turkey REACH) Regulation.

This change was made based on Article 64 of the KKDIK Regulation, and the Regulation on Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Substances and Mixtures has been repealed. As a result, questions have arisen about how the validity of safety data sheets prepared according to the repealed regulation will be affected.

According to the announcement made by the Chemicals Help Desk, safety data sheets prepared according to the Regulation on Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Substances and Mixtures and do not require updating under Article 28 of the KKDIK Regulation remain valid. However, it should be kept in mind that when the document periods of those who prepare these safety data sheets expire, the relevant forms must be prepared by chemical assessment specialists in accordance with the provisions of Part 4 of the KKDIK Regulation.

According to the same announcement, if there is any change in the structure of a chemical substance and/or there is a change according to Article 28, Paragraph 3 of the KKDIK Regulation, an updated version of the form must be provided.

It should also not be forgotten that the Safety Data Sheet Notification System, which is included in the Integrated Environmental Information System, must be uploaded.
